In 2009, our church celebrated our 60th anniversary and Santa Margarita celebrated its 120th anniversary. One of our anniversary events was the creation of a small town July 4th parade and day in the park. We designed the event to support the shared value we have with our town for strong families. Our parade is purposefully low key. The Boy Scouts lead our parade. Our local fire department drives some of their trucks. Moms push babies in strollers while their older children ride trikes and bikes, all decked out in red, white and blue. Dads pull wagons with kids waving small flags. We even have a local Wheelbarrow Brigade in our parade.  After the parade, we gather in the park for music, hot dogs, games, family photos and face painting. To keep it affordable for families, it is all free or at cost. The day is simply wonderful.  People come from all over the county to celebrate with us.  After leading the event for many years, the church handed off leadership to our Village Association. The church still runs some game booths, a table with the Declaration of Independence, the face painting booth and the photo booth.
